Disclaimer: This is a fictional scenario featuring Madison, a made-up college student. Farah and Cool Creek Family Health are real, however any other resemblance to real people, places, or sorority drama is purely coincidental—but probably relatable.
It was 7:42 a.m. and Madison had already hit snooze three times. Her Econ midterm was in 18 minutes, her sorority was hosting a philanthropy event at noon, and she hadn’t washed her hair since last Thursday. She was running on iced coffee, dry shampoo, and sheer panic.
As she sprinted across campus in leggings that had definitely seen better days, she felt it: the dreaded throat tickle. The kind that whispered, “You’re about to be sick, and it’s going to be dramatic.”
“Nope,” she muttered. “Not today, strep throat. I have a midterm, a banner to paint, and a group project with three people who think Canva is a personality.”
By 10:15 a.m., her voice was cracking like a boy band CD left in a hot car. She texted Farah Myers, her FNP at Cool Creek Family Health—someone she’d known since high school, back when she thought “adulting” meant buying your own shampoo.
Madison:
“Hey! I think I’m dying. Or maybe just sick. Can I call you?”
Farah:
“Of course! Let’s do a video chat. You’re probably not dying, but let’s confirm.”
Ten minutes later, Madison was curled up in her dorm bed, sipping tea and laughing with her nurse practitioner, who calmly walked her through symptoms, gave her a treatment plan, and reminded her to actually sleep once in a while.
“I know I’m technically an adult now,” Madison said, “but it’s nice knowing I still have someone who knows me—and doesn’t require me to decode insurance hieroglyphics just to get help.”
Farah smiled. “You’ve got me. Even if you’re three hours away and living off granola bars and Pinterest quotes.”
Madison hung up, feeling better already. Not just because she had a plan, but because she wasn’t alone. She had care that followed her—even into the chaos of college life.
And as she got ready to paint a banner that said “Kiss Away Cancer” with glitter glue and a sore throat, she thought: This is what grown-up healthcare should feel like.
